ESC Region 11 is excited to host our annual Library iCon, a conference focused on Library Resources for schools across North Texas. This conference brings together librarians, library support staff, and all of the amazing vendors who provide resources for future ready libraries. We will have sessions for librarians and the people who support them, including support staff and administrators.

If you want your students to learn how to write well, you have to go to the experts, and you don't have to go far, just start with the many authors located in your school's library. Julian Franklin's utilization of puppets, magic, storytelling and audience participation helps PK to 5th grade students get started on creating their own writing style. Students leave his program eager to find a good book that will provide them with a favorite technique to apply to their own writing. Tools & techniques discussed are interesting story beginnings, elaboration through the use of dialogue, sensory images of setting and character, and the use of similes and metaphors. Julian also explores plot and the variety of endings available for students to apply in their personal writing. Watch Julian in action as students "roll on the floor" with laughter while they unknowingly learn the skills of elaboration in their personal & classroom writing.
